Dr. Farooq completed his medical education at Punjab Medical College, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale School of Medicine, where he made significant contributions to research. His groundbreaking work led to the discovery of the novel role of metabolites in treating acute pancreatitis and acute liver failure.
Continuing his training, Dr. Farooq completed his internal medicine residency at the University at Buffalo Catholic Health System, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then pursued a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at Duke University, followed by an NIH T32 research fellowship at Duke University. During this time, his research identified hypophosphatemia as a cause of alcoholic pancreatitis and phosphate as a novel treatment modality for pancreatitis.
