Board-Certified Gastroenterology and Hepatology Care in Houston
Choosing a board-certified gastroenterologist means choosing a physician whose training, judgment, and ongoing education have been independently examined and verified. At Curative Digestive Disease Center, our care is led by Dr. Ahmad Farooq, a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist who completed advanced training at Yale School of Medicine and Duke University.
Learn What Board Certification MeansWhat Board Certification Means for You
Board certification is not the same as a medical license. A licensed physician has met the minimum requirement to practice; a board-certified gastroenterologist has completed an accredited fellowship in gastroenterology, passed rigorous specialty examinations, and committed to continuous recertification. For you, that difference shows up in three practical ways:
Depth of training — years of supervised experience in endoscopy, hepatology, and complex GI diagnosis beyond general internal medicine.
Verified competence — independently assessed knowledge of current standards for screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
Ongoing accountability — maintenance of certification requires staying current as evidence and technique evolve.

The Care We Provide
Our practice covers the full range of gastrointestinal and liver care, from routine screening through complex therapeutic endoscopy:
Screening and diagnostic colonoscopy, including polyp removal
Upper endoscopy (EGD) for reflux, ulcers, difficulty swallowing, and bleeding
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and capsule endoscopy for detailed imaging
ERCP for bile duct and pancreatic disorders, including stone removal and stenting
Management of GERD, IBS, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic pancreatitis, gallstones, and liver disease
Evaluation of abdominal pain, GI bleeding, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss
A Specialist Team, Not a Single Physician
Complex digestive disease rarely rests on one person's judgment. Our patients are supported by Dr. Ghulam Ilyas, a fellowship-trained gastrointestinal pathologist who reads biopsies in house; Dr. Anaum Maqsood, who leads our oncology program for gastrointestinal cancers; Dr. Marc F. Catalano in advanced endoscopy; and Dr. Larry Tong, a board-certified anesthesiologist who oversees sedation for procedures.
Because pathology is read on site rather than sent to an outside lab, biopsy results come back in days rather than weeks — which matters enormously when the question on the table is whether something is cancer.
